Now, I know what you're thinking.. slaves...? really Jason...? We're not slaves, what does this have to do with us??
I'm so glad you asked. It is my belief that Paul is speaking to us not just in terms a slave and master relationship, but speaking to any earthly authority we come under. Stop for a minute right there, and think about your life. What authorities are over you? Parents? Teachers? Mini-Church Leaders? Pastors?
He says to obey (like we talked about yesterday) with respect and fear and a sincere heart, as you would Christ. So, we are supposed to treat these people that God has placed in our lives with the same respect we would treat Jesus.
How do you treat these people in your life that God has given authority to? For some of us, I think we would be embarrassed if Jesus saw the way that we treat authority, yet the bible doesn't even say obey like Jesus is watching. It says obey like you would obey Jesus.
On the other side, the master (or teacher, mini-church leader, or parent) is reminded that God is the master over ALL of us, and he doesn't play favorites.
Keep reading! I'm so proud of you guys!
