People need mentors, models, partners, and friends

We all need people surrounding us.  People who surround us have a strong influence on the outcomes of our life.  The question you all have to ask yourself is do you have the right people surrounding you?...    We need mentors, models, partners, and friends and more than one for each category…. Mentors are like coaches.  Mentors help guide and direct us in different aspects of our lives. They can help us with our family/ marriage, relationship with Jesus, job specific mentors, etc. (a mentor could be via book, but we do need human interacting mentors).  Models are people who have lived (noticed it is stated lived i.e. they are dead) lives that are worthy of following.  There are people in the Bible to model after, grandparents or parents, Christian leaders (John Calvin, Martin Luther), etc.  Partners are people who work alongside of you and support you.  These people would put their job or life on the line for you.  Nobody likes to work where they have no partners.  We all need friends that will love us no matter what.  No matter if we did something really stupid, and it was our entire fault they still love us…. Summer TRL

We can't believe another school year is almost over!  It was a great year in TRL, and we do not want to lose that momentum!  We are starting our TRL summer program Monday, June 15th through August 3rd from 6:30-8:00PM.  There will be a variety of activities (yuck night & water wars) and worship.  Check out the calender below.  

Change your mind --> change your heart --> change your life

Everything starts with a thought.  Once it is a believed thought whether right or wrong it then changes our heart/ emotions to align to the thought.  Then after the heart is aligned our life is changed for better or worse.  We can see our life changed by our actions.  Here are four examples….  I think/ believe I am not good enough.  My heart/ emotions are invested.  My actions will show that I believe that I am not good enough.  As a result my life has been changed in for the worst…. I think/ believe that love is strings attached.  My heart/ emotions are fixed on love that is tainted.  My actions try to get others to love me by doing things for them.   As a result my life is changed for the worst (This thought was true most of my life) ….. I think/ believe God is a big God.  My heart/ emotions align with the thought.  I have actions that I can do anything, anything through God even change the world.  As a result my life is changed for the better.   As A.W. Tozer says, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."…. Lastly if we think/ believe that during hard times we are going to fall apart and growth cannot happen because of our situation.  Our heart/ emotions will believe nothing can happen.  Then our actions will result in us gripping, being angry, being not humble, ext….. We need to align our thoughts with the Word of God.  What does God have to say about _____?    

Summer Crossroads

This summer Crossroads is doing something different! Students will be meeting in the homes of students in groups of 10-20. These "House Groups" will be a mix of girls only, guys only and girls & guys together. There will be an adult with every student leader. Students can join a group by contacting the student leader by phone or calling into the Student Ministries office. The "House Groups" will start with a meet-n-greet night sometime between May 31st and June 6th. The week of June 14th will start the weekly "House Groups" with No Perfect People. It will run once a week for 8 weeks in the summer with possible interruptions for vacations. 

What a typical night will look like 

- First 1/2 hour hanging out and snacks 

- 15 minutes for teaching video 

- 45 minutes for discussion & prayer

 - last 1/2 hour for hanging out
