Scooby Dooby Doo is a Hit!!

A couple of stats from the pancake breakfast this past Saturday:

• 1500 - number of people served
• $16,500 - the amount of money raised
• 130 students served food
• 5000 - sausage links cooked and served
• 65 gallons of juice and that was not enough
• Over 100 - number of volunteer hours put in by a few dedicated people that help make this event happen every year.

There are so many cool aspects to this event.  It is a great time of fellowship for the people who come and spend the morning talking with people and letting their children have a great time on the Mystery Machine jump house.  It is a fun, safe way to introduce family and friends to Faith Church.  Who is not up for pancakes and cartoons on a Saturday morning.  And finally, for today anyway, it helps students raise the resources needed to participate in summer trips and weekend retreats through-out the year.

A special thank you to Jill Mance and her team for running the silent auction, Don Spender and the kitchen team for great tasting food and Diane Kickert for making the whole thing happen without a hitch.  There are so many others who work on this event, but these are the three that top the list.

U2 Release

Today one my favorite bands of all time released there new album - "No Line on the Horizon."  As I write this I am actually listening to the album for the very first time.  There is one song that has already captured my attention - Magnificent.  Sounds like a real worship song to me?

Why do I like U2 so much?
1. They are passionate about their music, life and causes.
2. They have leveraged their fame for causes that mean something to this world and more importantly to the Kingdom.
3. Their music is authentic - they do not cave to the pop culture - they write and sing music that is truly them.  I think pop culture desires that authenticity more than anything.
4. It is awesome cruisn' music.
5. Rattle N Hum.
Maybe you can add to the list.  I need to say this one thing - I paid for my album on I-tunes.  There are many people that have already stolen this album through an illegal download.  Even a local radio talk show host has bragged this week about having had the album for over two weeks.  His logic - they have enough money.

Without a doubt they have a lot of money - however Bono has poured untold resources into the cause of AIDS and other social issues.  To steal from them, is to steal from these causes.

Sorry, I will get off my soap box now.  If you have ever liked U2 - I recommend this album.
