The Power of Video

I think it is safe to say that video will be a significant part of ministry for a long time to come.  We in Student Ministries have fully embraced this reality.  In fact, we have a part-time position in Student Ministries that is focused on bringing video into our weekly programing.  Eric Bryd has been producing videos for and of our weekly programming events for almost a year now.

Ugly Sweaters and Awesome Leaders

On Friday night January 9th Student Ministries gathered to celebrate the dedication of our volunteers. Our  celebration was held at the Ravines, the location of the marriage hospital.  The evening included appetizers, Italian food from Papino's and an ugly sweater contest.  The three leaders pictured to the left were our top finalist.  I'll you decide who should have won.

Student Ministries has over 70 volunteers serving in a variety of ministries.  Our volunteers serve in the areas of mini-church's, Life Hurts God Heals, the juice bar, and other valuable support roles.  Each of them knows that we exist and their purpose is to help reach disconnected students and grow the connected students.  Without these people, student ministries at Faith Church would not accomplish this mission.

Eight Years

It was eight years ago this week that I began my ministry here at Faith Church as the Pastor of Student Ministries.  It is amazing to me how fast the time has gone by.  I took a few minutes this morning to reflect on what has changed and what has stayed the same over the last eight years.  These are just a few of the things that came to mind:

Changed:

• The location of both the church and my home.
• The size of both the church and my family.
• TRL used to be called Pathfinders.
• The additional student ministry staff and all the great volunteers we have in student ministries.
• The way we do ministry (partly because we have 5 times more students and mainly because students have changed).
• The way I do my hair and the addition of facial hair

Not Changed: 

• The mission of Student Ministries - we still exist to reach students with Jesus.
• My passion to see students come to know Jesus and live their life for Him.
• My weight (if anything it is less)
• Our God

I have no idea where God will have me eight years from now - all I know is that my desire today is to follow Him where ever he leads.
